Why drink water after your massage
massage can be dehydrating. Kneading and working muscle gets fluid pumping out of the soft tissue and into your circulatory system, where it heads toward your kidneys.
Your body is approximately 60% water. The content varies according to your age, health, weight and sex. Water is used for a variety of functions in the body, such as protecting internal organs, moistening tissues, dissolving nutrients to be absorbed by the body, lubricating joints and regulating body temperature. Water also helps the kidneys flush out waste products and helps in oxygen transport to the cells of the body.
It is helpful to drink water after a massage because water helps the kidneys and other organs process the various substances which move through the body on a regular basis. In addition, when your muscles are tight or you have a big knot your circulation is restricted in those areas. Once those areas are softened or released, metabolic by-products are released from your muscle tissue into the circulatory system. Drinking water after a massage aids in flushing out these waste products from your body.
